Putao can be found in the far north of Myanmar. It is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas and is actually only accessible by air. It is a small and very beautiful town with some stunning scenery on offer. Putao is definitely for the adventurous ‘Dare Devils’. There are some great activity’s available from some serious trekking and mountain biking to white water rafting and even some skiing options in the mountains (when weather permits). A trek for the most serious of hikers who have a long time in Putao is the hike up to the highest peak in southeast Asia, Hkakabo Razi. It borders both Myanmar, China and India and is just under 6,000 meters tall. It can take a month to go up Hkakabo Razi so, it is not for the faint-hearted and do make sure you are well prepared. The cost of getting to Putao is quite high due to it only being accessible by air so,do leave yourself plenty of time to get from one place to the next. There are tours to Putao and the surrounding area of around 4 days which can be a good option if you want everything organised for you and due to the limited access to Putao it might be a good idea for the more inexperienced personnel. If you are planning on staying in Putao, there are some Hotels, but they can become limited, especially in the rainy season when most are closed between June and September. Another thing to note when travelling to Putao is to remember to take some bug repellent as you can get bitten quite badly if non-is applied. Overall, travelling to Putao will give you a new experience of travelling to a very quiet but beautiful place with the scenery blowing you away.
