Visit Mawlamyine in Myanmar

Mawlamyine is an elegant tropical town located in Myanmar. It has many ancient colonial buildings lining it tranquil and peaceful streets. It is also famous for its market stalls and the array of fresh seafood that it has on offer. A visit to Mawlamyine inspired Rudyard Kipling to write his famous poem Mandalay, so perhaps it could inspire you to do something great too. In terms of its location the city can be found at the mouth of the Thanlwin river and one of the main points of focus there is the Kyaik Than Lan Pagoda, which leans over the city and ha some outstanding views that can be seen from it. It is a very old building as it was built in 875 AD and contains a lot of Buddhist history. There are also other places to visit in Mawlamyine that could take your historical and cultural interest and allow you to learn more about the city such as the St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and the deserted St Matthew’s Church too.  However, if just having a relaxing time is your thing then the riverfront is one of the best places to go to get a few extra rays in during the evening. Why not grab a drink and a bite to eat whilst you are there with the wide selection of bars and restaurants it has to offer to serve until late. If you want to get out of town for a day then you could either go 20km south and find the world’s largest reclining Buddha in Kyauktalon Taung, explore the caves of Kawgoon and Payon and discover the several Buddha images or go to the Kyaikkami pagoda sitting on the rocks by the sea joined to the land by the causeway. Whichever of them takes your fancy they can all be reached by taxi from Mawlamyine.
