Itinerary

Myanmar is famous for its rich culture, beautiful landscape, and its authentic people. Our trip in and around Yangon starts with exploring city life in the downtown area. There are many different experiences to enjoy, including the Burmese architecture and the colonial buildings of the last British Empire. We will also visit the beautiful Shwedagon pagoda as well as the Botahtaung Pagoda, one of the most significant pagodas in Yangon which houses a sacred hair relic of the Buddha.

Bago and Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (also known as Golden Rock) are highlights of a trip to Myanmar as they are sacred pilgrimage sites. Our final destination is Thanlyin (National Races Village), to get an overview of Myanmar’s ethnic groups.

Day 1 : Arrival and Yangon sightseeing

We start our day of exploring downtown Yangon on foot by visiting the beautiful colonial buildings. Among the buildings we will visit is the Yangon City Hall which is centrally located in downtown Yangon and is considered a fine example of Burmese architecture, featuring a traditional roof. City Hall is close to several important landmarks such as Sule Pagoda, Maha-Bandula Park, the High Court, and the Main Post Office – all impressive colonial-style buildings. We will have lunch at an authentic Myanmar restaurant, and then visit the famous Bogyoke Aung San Market (known as Scott Market) with its 2,000 sprawling shops for clothing, gemstones, jewellery, traditional arts & crafts and souvenirs. Its building is recognized as one of the “blue plagues” of the Yangon Heritage Buildings. We then proceed to Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue which is the last remaining Jewish house of worship in downtown Yangon, and Burma’s only synagogue. Time permitting we will also visit Botahtaung Pagoda and temples such as the Shri Kali Hindu temple, the Chinese Guanyin Temple, and the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda with its 66 meters long reclining Buddha – one of the largest in Myanmar.  Our day will end at Shwedagon Pagoda, which is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar and surrounded by an array of temples, shrines, and pavilions. Afterwards, we return to the hotel to relax.

Early in the morning we drive to Golden Rock and on the way we visit a World War 2 Cemetery as well as a pottery workshop. We also visit the Kyakhat Wine Monastery which is home to over 1,000 monks studying Buddha scriptures while living their monastic lives. After lunch we drive to Kinpun base camp from where the truck goes up the mountain for our visit to Golden Rock durung sunset. We will overnight in a hotel at Golden Rock.

After breakfast we return to base camp and drive back to Yangon. On the way, we visit Shwemawdaw Pagoda (the soul of Bago) and Kanbawzathardi Palace dating back to the second Myanmar dynasty. We also visit Shwetharlyaung (one of biggest reclining Buddha images in the country) and visit Kyaik Pun Pagoda with its four-faced Buddha images. We overnight in Yangon.

After breakfast we drive to Thanlyin and on the way we visit National Races Village to get an overview of Myanmar’s ethnic groups. We then continue to Kyauk Tan to visit Kyaik Mhaw Wun Ye Le Pagoda and then return to Yangon. Back in Yangon, we have an optional visit to Thabawa Center where you can volunteer or donate to the disabled and the aged. On the way to the airport we visit the White Elephant Camp and the Kyauk Taw Gyi sitting Buddha marble image. The tour concludes at the airport.
