Not far from the border with Laos and Thailand, Preah Vihear is a province and a city. It is named after the temple of the same name, which is an ancient Hindu temple devoted to Shiva. It was built in the early 9th century, atop a steep cliff in the mountain range close to the border with Thailand. Staggeringly, the temple has stood the test of time and remains an absolutely enchanting place to visit. Not only is the architecture absolute exquisite, but the surrounding views of the Dangrek Mountain range create a magical atmosphere.
